New Features... Tue, Dec 16, 2003

Eschool Builder Version 1.1 has arrived!  This latest version of the software contains several new features including:

Express View - found in the Create a New Course section; allows an instructor to create a new course by completing 4 required fields only.  (Additions, changes or revisions can be made to the course information at any time by modifying the course data.)      

Interactive Map - available in the Create a New Course section, using the Normal view.  Allows the instructor to add the address of a class meeting place, which will link to a Yahoo map allowing students to view a map to the class location when viewing the course description in the course catalog.

Payment Options - additional fields have been added to the  Payment Options area, including:  purchase order number, billing address, city, state and zip code.

Quiz Security - has been tightened, particularly for quizzes that may be taken only one time.

Plug-In Library - available in the Learning and Instructor Centers.  Provides links to some of the most popular browser plug-ins and helper applications such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, MS Word Viewer, Real Player and others.

Task Manager - now allows an instructor to add tasks that are not related to a course site.  These unrelated tasks will be labeled as "Not Applicable".

Eschool Builder User's Group- if you missed the Nov. 2003 Eschool Builder User's Group Meeting it is now available online at www.academypa.org.  Click on the Eschool Builder link to access the clips of the meeting.  The next meeting will be scheduled in May 2004.


Standards Reference... Fri, Aug 22, 2003

eSchool Builder users from Pennsylvania will now notice a new instructor tool in the Instructor Center called "Standards Reference." This is an easy to use interface that allows instructors to locate a Pennsylvania Academic Standard. No more printing out hundreds of pages of standards on with your printer in order to be able to reference a standard! Search options include a pull down menu for selecting one entire set of standards and a keyword search that can be performed across all or one set of standards.


Items and Folders... Thu, Jul 24, 2003

When you create a new course the default structure for your content will continue to be Lessons & Topics. However, if you go into Edit Tools you can click on "Change Content Structure" to toggle from the Lesson & Topics default to Folders and Items. You'll notice that this new structure will allow you to build folder inside of folder for an unlimited number of instances. This was the first step we needed to take in order to begin thinking of ways to import course content from commercial e-Learning platforms.


File Manager ... Thu, Jul 24, 2003

You will notice in your course web sites in Edit Tools that the File Manager tool is complete and ready to use. Think of this as an FTP program built right into your course that allows you to transfer many files to your course folder all in one shot. Once the files are stored in your course folder you can create hyperlinks to the pages such as www.academypa.org/courses/1634/FTP/test.html (just an example hyplerlink to show the correct path).
